 ( NGI)

Since 2013 NGI has designed and installed instrumentation for monopiles and jackets in wind, with a focus on getting quality data for the steel to soil interface in particular.

ProWind - Norwegian Infrastructure Platform for Foundation Technology Research in Offshore Wind

ProWind aims to strengthen Norway’s role in offshore wind and establish a unique national infrastructure for research dedicated to offshore wind.

Seagreen - foundation installation for the world's deepest offshore wind farm

Huge buckets, silently sucked into the seabed with the opening down, keep the wind turbines on the Seagreen field off the east coast of Scotland in place on the seabed. Together with FRAMO, NGI had the task of installing the bucket foundations on the 114 jacket substructures for the wind turbines.

TAILWIND – sustainable anchoring systems for floating offshore wind

NGI cooridnates this four-year EU project focusing on mooring lines and anchors for floating offshore wind turbines. The project will develop further these technologies identifying opportunities for cost and environmental impact reduction.

SP16 Rock-Off

Offshore wind is increasingly moving into areas with shallow soft rock, where foundation design is more complex and less mature than in typical soil conditions. SP16 Rock Off develops practical methods to characterize these ground conditions and design safer, more efficient foundations for both fixed-bottom and floating offshore wind.

SP18 On Certain Ground

To meet the global goal of net-zero emissions by 2050, offshore wind energy will need to supply up to 25% of the world’s electricity, according to the Global Wind Energy Council. To achieve this, the industry must become more efficient and deliver reliable, cost-effective projects.

WINDRISE - An integrated value chain for sustainable and up-scaled production, transport and installation of offshore wind substructures

WINDRISE is an innovation project that will bring together leading Norwegian stakeholders in the value chain from design, production, transport and installation of bottom-fixed substructures for offshore wind to enable scaling up and accelerated distribution of large offshore wind farms.

WAS-XL - soil support for extra large monopiles

WAS-XL (Wave loads and soil support for extra large monopiles) is a research project funded by the Research Council of Norway, through the KPN program (KompetanseProsjekt for Næringslivet).

NorthWind - reduce the cost of wind energy

FME NorthWind (Norwegian Research Centre on Wind Energy) brings forward outstanding research and innovation to reduce the cost of wind energy, facilitate its sustainable development, create jobs and grow exports.

Nova Scotia Offshore Wind: Desktop Study

NGI has collaborated with TGS to generate a comprehensive Desktop Study for offshore Nova Scotia (Canada) ahead of planned licensing rounds. It provides developers with a solid basis for initial bidding and future investment decisions.

PIGS - Piling in Glauconitic Sand Joint Industry Project (JIP)

Limited experience with glauconitic soil conditions introduces significant uncertainty in pile-driving predictions for jacket piles and monopiles. The Joint Industry Project (JIP) Piling in Glauconitic Sand (PIGS) aims to address the uncertainties arising from the behavior of such soils around piles.

REDWIN - reduce wind energy cost

REDucing cost in offshore WINd by integrated structural and geotechnical design is a R&D Project supported by The Norwegian Research Council ENERGIX program.

RedWin 2 - REDucing cost of offshore WINd

The project "RedWin 2 – REDucing cost of offshore WINd by integrated structural and geotechnical design" is an IPN research project funded under the ENERGIX program of the Research Council of Norway. The primary objective of RedWin 2 is to advance and merge engineering tools and methods, enabling designers of offshore wind turbine foundations to apply recent research and development results in design practice. This shall be achieved by developing a streamlined design workflow for optimization relevant for developers and designers of Offshore Wind Farms, both in Norway and internationally.

Reliability of Axial Pile Capacity Calculation Methods

A joint industry research project to investigate the reliability of the different methods for predicting the axial capacity of offshore piles, and make recommendations to regulatory bodies on the selection of characteristic values and partial safety factors for the design of offshore piles.
