ISGSR 2025

NGI organizes the 9th International Symposium for Geotechnical Safety and Risk (ISGSR). This is a successful biennial series of international conferences supported by the Geotechnical Safety Network (GEOSNet), ISSMGE Technical Committees TC304, TC205 and TC309, and ASCE Geo Institute’s Technical Committee on Risk Assessment and Management. 

The symposium will be held in Oslo, Norway, from August 25th to 28th, 2025.

MINEYE - Earth observation techniques for mine life cycle monitoring

The MINEYE project aims to optimize European mining operations by addressing the entire mining value chain, from explorations to mine closure. The project will develop tools for visualization and decision-making, supported by dynamic updates of Earth Observation data and knowledge using machine learning and digital twin technologies.

Seagreen - foundation installation for the world's deepest offshore wind farm

Huge buckets, silently sucked into the seabed with the opening down, keep the wind turbines on the Seagreen field off the east coast of Scotland in place on the seabed. Together with FRAMO, NGI had the task of installing the bucket foundations on the 114 jacket substructures for the wind turbines.

PIGS - Piling in Glauconitic Sand Joint Industry Project (JIP)

Limited experience with glauconitic soil conditions introduces significant uncertainty in pile-driving predictions for jacket piles and monopiles. The Joint Industry Project (JIP) Piling in Glauconitic Sand (PIGS) aims to address the uncertainties arising from the behavior of such soils around piles.

Satellite-Based Monitoring of Floating Plastic in the Ocean: A New Feasibility Study

In collaboration with SALT, NGI (Norwegian Geotechnical Institute) recently completed an exciting feasibility study for the Norwegian Environment Agency. The study examined the potential for a satellite-based monitoring and alert system for floating plastic in the ocean.

NGI and Partners Finally Secure Funding for SAFERCLAY on Risk Methods for Quick Clay Landslides

After three application rounds, the four-year research project SAFERCLAY has finally secured funding from the Research Council of Norway. The project aims to develop methods to assess how landslide risk changes over time. "The lesson is never to give up," says Jean-Sébastien L'Heureux, project leader for SAFERCLAY at NGI – Norwegian Geotechnical Institute.
