Government Building Complex on alum shale

NGI has made use of its own method developed for identifying and characterizing black shales, as well as its long experience of safety measures for potentially unstable building sites.

A fast but technically secure method of characterization of black shales was called for in this project. A method was developed which made use of a handheld XRF instrument, (x-ray fluorescence), for continual tracking via an on-site field laboratory. One could now take samples from drill holes for blasting and subsequently have completed characterization results when loading and removing the blasted masses later.
