WP2 - Pattern recognition of avalanches

Near real-time information on released avalanches would also be important in the context of emergency situations.

During WP2, the main task will be to develop and validate pattern recognition techniques for the detection and characterisation of avalanche deposition areas as well as avalanche paths. The algorithms for detection of avalanches developed during early test projects have to be further developed in order to overcome remaining challenges.

The best components of NR's and NGI's avalanche detection algorithms are to be combined. Information on the size and the run-out length of avalanches will be the main interest.
