Terzaghi Library
Karl von Terzaghi, considered the founder of modern soil mechanics and geoengineering, was an Austrian engineer and scholar. He emigrated to the USA in 1938 and became a professor at Harvard University until his retirement in 1957. He died in 1963. In his will, he donated all his technical material archives to the NGI.
The collection provides insight into Terzaghi's personality, working methods, achievements, relationships with colleagues, clients and activities he valued.
The documents and his life story show a brilliant, fearless, and enthusiastic personality who dominated the world's circles working with soil mechanics and foundation engineering for several decades.
The collection also contains personal correspondence, diary entries, and photographs.
